This temple is of the Tenryu-ji school of the Rinzai sect and is located in Saga Tenryu-ji Tsukurimichi-cho, Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City. The mountain name is Mount Reiki. The principal image is Miroku Bosatsu. In 1330 (Gentoku 2), Emperor Godaigo converted Emperor Kameyama's villa, Kawabata Palace, into a Zen temple for the memorial service of his son, Prince Sera, and invited Muso Soseki to be its founder. It was later listed as one of the Five Mountains and Ten Temples. It is known that during the Ryakuo to Oei eras (1338-1428) the temple printed books based on the Gozan edition, which are known as the "Rinsenji edition." The temple was damaged during the Onin War, and the current building was renovated during the Keicho era (1596-1615).
