[raw]? [Died] 1788, Beijing. Leader of the Taiwan Rebellion that occurred in the late Qianlong period of the Qianlong Dynasty. Born in Zhangzhou (Fujian Province). He went to Taiwan and became a police officer in Changhua County, but later gained power as the leader of the local Tiandihui (→Sanhehui). In 1786, he rebelled against the oppression of the authorities, occupied the Changhua and Chiayi areas, and established independence, naming the era Shuntian. However, the following year, he was captured by an attack by the Qing's punitive forces, sent to Beijing and executed. The three major rebellions in Taiwan under the Qing Dynasty are the Zhu Yigui Rebellion, the Dai Wanshi Rebellion, and the Shuangwen Rebellion.
