A joke story. One volume. Written by Ota Nanpo (Furei Sanjin), illustrated by Katsukawa Shunsho. Published in 1775 (An'ei 4). On their way back from a pilgrimage to Horiuchi, Tani Yasui and Kinshichi hang out in the pleasure quarters of Shinjuku, where the half-skilled Tani Yasui is rejected by his girlfriend, while his naive son Kinshichi is treated well. The story also includes humorous bits of country guest Magoemon speaking in his local dialect. This is the first joke story about Shinjuku, and is full of bright laughs. The author is the same person who wrote Yamanote no Bakahito, an anonymous version of Ota Nanpo, and this is his first joke story. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
