Rinsen

Japanese: 臨川 - りんせん
Rinsen

A district under the jurisdiction of Fuzhou prefecture-level city in central Jiangxi Province, China. It is located on the east bank of the midstream of the Fu River. Population: 1.112 million (2016). During the Later Han dynasty, it was called Linru County, but during the Sui dynasty it became Linchuan County, and was the administrative center of Fuzhou Road and Fuzhou Prefecture for many generations. Linchuan County was separated from Fuzhou City in 1955, but merged with Fuzhou City again in 1987 to form Linchuan City. In 2000, Linchuan City merged with Fuzhou District to become a Fuzhou prefecture-level city, and Linchuan became its district.

The area consists of a long, narrow plain stretching from north to south, with well-developed irrigation facilities, and produces double-cropped rice, rapeseed, cotton, and soybeans. Pig farming is also thriving, and the area is famous for producing fruits such as watermelons and mandarin oranges. Traditional industries include porcelain, and there are also factories in the mechanical and electrical industries, metal processing, and food processing. The area has produced many talented people since ancient times, and is particularly famous as the hometown of Wang Anshi, a reformist politician from the Song dynasty. A branch of the Shanghai-Kunming Railway runs through the area.
