Bacteremia - Bacteremia

Bacteremia - Bacteremia
This is a condition in which there is a bacterial infection focus somewhere in an organ or tissue, and bacteria are constantly or intermittently leaking from that focus into the bloodstream. If the body's defenses are weak, the bacteria are highly virulent, or both coexist, new lesions will form in a location separate from the original focus, progressing to sepsis. Blood cultures are performed to confirm bacteremia, but it is often difficult to strictly distinguish between bacteremia and sepsis.
