〘 noun 〙 A woman who, while remaining a layperson, shaved her head and entered the Buddhist priesthood. The wife of a nun. ※Ichi-ippai-mon (c. 1212) "Even if I am able to study the teachings of the age, I will remain a fool who knows nothing and will join the ignorant friends of nuns and not behave like a wise person."
