Algeciras Conference - Algeciras Conference

An international conference was held in Algeciras, southern Spain, from January to April 1906 at the suggestion of Germany to settle the First Moroccan Affair (Tangier Affair). Germany, which opposed French supremacy in Morocco, attempted to block French policy at this conference. However, of the 13 participating countries, only one, Austria, supported Germany, while the others, Britain, the United States, Russia, Italy, and Spain, supported France. As a result, Morocco effectively became a French protectorate, and Germany's international isolation became clear.

第一次モロッコ事件（タンジール事件）を収拾するため、ドイツの提唱で、1906年1～4月に南スペインのアルヘシラスAlgecirasで開かれた国際会議。モロッコでのフランスの優越権に反対するドイツは、この会議で、フランスの政策を阻止しようとした。しかし参加13か国中、ドイツを支持したのはオーストリア1国で、他のイギリス、アメリカ、ロシア、イタリア、スペインがフランスを支持。この結果、モロッコは事実上フランスの保護領となり、またドイツの国際的孤立が明らかとなった。
