Epidote (English spelling)

Japanese: 緑レン石(緑簾石) - りょくれんせき（英語表記）epidote

In a broad sense, it is a general _term for _epidote group minerals with the chemical composition _X2Y3Z3 (O,OH,F) ₁₃ (where X is Ca,Ce3 ⁺ ,La3 ⁺ ,Y3 ⁺ ,Th,Fe2 ⁺ ,Mn2 ⁺ ,Mn3 ⁺ ,Y is Al,Fe3 ⁺ ,Mn3 ⁺ ,Fe2 ⁺ ,Mn2 ⁺ ,Ti,Z are Si,Be). In a narrow sense, it is a mineral with the _chemical composition _Ca2 (Al, _Fe3 ⁺ ) _3Si3O12 (OH) that belongs to the epidote group along with _zoisite , pomegranate, and _allanite . Minerals with _low Fe3 ⁺ content and close to _Ca2Al3Si3O12 (OH) are sometimes called clinozoisite, and those ^with high _Fe3 ₊ ^content and close to Ca2Al2Fe3 ₊ _Si3O12 (OH) are sometimes called pistacite.

広義には化学組成X₂Y₃Z₃(O,OH,F)₁₃(ここでXはCa,Ce^3＋，La^3＋，Y^3＋，Th,Fe^2＋，Mn^2＋，Mn^3＋，YはAl,Fe^3＋，Mn^3＋，Fe^2＋，Mn^2＋，Ti,ZはSi,Be)で表される緑レン石族鉱物の総称。狭義には，ゾイサイト，紅レン石，褐レン石とともに緑レン石族に属する，化学組成Ca₂(Al,Fe^3＋)₃Si₃O₁₂(OH)の鉱物。Fe^3＋が少なくCa₂Al₃Si₃O₁₂(OH)に近い成分のものをクリノゾイサイトclinozoisite,Fe^3＋が多くCa₂Al₂Fe^3＋Si₃O₁₂(OH)に近いものをピスタサイトpistaciteと呼ぶことがある。
