A bay in the northeastern part of Sado Island, Niigata Prefecture. It is located in a depression in the Kuninaka Graben between the Osado Mountains and the Kosado Hills, and the bay on the opposite southwest side is called Mano Bay. The bay is an inland sea with an average depth of 200 meters, and Mt. Kinpoku (1,172 meters) blocks the northwest winds in winter, making it a refuge port for Niigata Port. The head of the bay is formed by a sand spit made by the sand flow of the Umezu River alluvial fan, and it embraces Lake Kamo, a former sea lake, and is home to Ryotsu Port, the gateway to the island. The bay is a landing port for yellowtail, flying squid, and other fish, and a farming area for oysters, wakame seaweed, nori seaweed, and abalone.
