Furthermore, at the 19th Mexico tournament (1968), Shigeo Nakata (flyweight), Yojiro Uetake (bantamweight), and Masaaki Kaneko (featherweight) won the freestyle, and Souji Munemura (lightweight) won the Greco-Roman style, establishing Japan as a world power along with the Soviet Union and Turkey. In 1970, a groundbreaking change was made to the international rules, with 10 weight classes, a kilogram system, and circular mats replacing square mats (Figure). …
