Austrian painter. Also known as FA Maupertsch. Born in Langenargen on Lake Constance, he studied at the Academy in Vienna. He produced numerous frescoes and altarpieces for churches and monasteries throughout Austria and Hungary. He is a representative figure of Austrian Rococo painting. His artistic individuality, which depicts themes of "martyrdom" and "ecstasy" with a rich sense of expressiveness and fantasy through bold brushstrokes, vivid colors, and strong contrasts between light and dark, is particularly evident in his sketches for large-scale works.

オーストリアの画家。マウペルチュF.A.Maupertschともいう。ボーデン湖畔ランゲンアルゲンLangenargenに生まれ，ウィーンのアカデミーで学ぶ。オーストリアとハンガリー各地の教会や修道院のため多数のフレスコ装飾と祭壇画を制作した。オーストリア･ロココ絵画の代表的存在。大胆な筆致，あざやかな色彩，強い明暗対比によって〈殉教〉や〈法悦〉の主題を表出性･幻想性豊かに描き出すその芸術的個性は，とくに大作のための下絵に顕著に現れている。
