Sredets

...The remains of the Roman baths built during this period became part of the Church of St. George in the Middle Ages, and can still be seen in the courtyard of Hotel Balkan in the city center. After a long migration of peoples, in 808 it was included in the territory of the new Slavic Bulgarian state, and as the center of the nation it came to be called Sredets (Slavic for "center").
