Bonito and tuna fishing boats

Japanese: カツオ･マグロ漁船 - かつおまぐろぎょせん

A general term for fishing boats that use pole-and-line fishing for skipjack tuna and longline fishing for tuna. Previously, one fishing boat conducted pole-and-line fishing for skipjack tuna from March/April to October, and longline fishing for tuna from November to March.

The size of ships varies from 20 tons to 500 tons, but most large ships over 100 tons are made of steel. Small ships were mostly made of wood, but due to shortages of materials and manpower, they began to be made of FRP (reinforced plastic).

カツオ一本釣りとマグロはえなわ(延縄)を行う漁船の総称。以前は1隻の漁船により3～4月ころから10月ころまでのカツオ一本釣り漁，11月ころから3月ころまでのマグロはえなわ漁を行っていた。

　船の大きさは20トンから500トンくらいまでさまざまであるが，100トン以上の大型船はほとんど鋼船である。小型船はほとんど木船であったが，資材，人手不足などの関係からFRP(強化プラスチック)で作られるようになった。
