1884‐1915 An anarchist in the early Republic of China. A native of Xiangshan (now Zhongshan) County, Guangdong Province. His name was also written as Sif, and he was also known as Liu Sif. In 1904 (the 30th year of the Guangxu era), he studied in Japan, and in 1905 he joined the China Tongminghui. In 1907 he was arrested after failing to assassinate Guangdong Navy Admiral Li Jun, and losing his left hand. After being released from prison in 1909 (the 1st year of the Xuantong era), he organized an assassination squad in Hong Kong, and plotted to assassinate Regent Wang Zaifeng, among other things. During the Xinhai Revolution, he attempted to assassinate Yuan Shikai, but gave up when the North-South Peace Agreement was reached. He then retired to Hangzhou to meditate, and in May 1912 he organized the anarchist group Huiming Academy in Guangzhou, and later founded the Heart Society, which advocated moral cultivation.
