The Five Great Powers
[1][一] Abbreviation of "Godai-riki Bosatsu (Five Great Powers Bodhisattvas) (I)". ※Nichiren's writings - Rissho Ankoku Ron (1260) "If only the five great powers could be drawn , two thousand households would be hung." [2] Jiuta. Two-layered. Lyrics by Sakaiya Shichibei. Music by Shirakawa Kengyo. Written before the reign of Shōtoku and Kyōhō (1711-36 ). The lyrics are in the form of a letter, beginning with "I forget to write even one brushstroke ," and express the gentle heart of a woman who worries about her beloved man while waiting for the day she will meet him. [3] Nagauta. A solo recitation meriyasu, borrowing the latter half of the lyrics of a jiuta piece of the same name, used in the kabuki play "Godai-riki Koi-koku." The melody is sung behind the back of the shamisen when the prostitute Koman writes "Godai-riki" (five great powers) on the back of her shamisen as a sign of her unchanging feelings for her beloved Gengobei. ※Kakuhon・Giba Suigen Maku no Soto (1806) 2 “Meiyasu Go-Dairiki: “Itsumade gusa no itsumomomo. Namae to namae yori go-dairiki mono wa nai ” (I can’t speak of raw drunkenness)” [4] A nickname for the Kabuki play “Go-Dairiki Koi no Fuujime.” [2] [Noun] ① An abbreviation of “Go-Dairiki Bosatsu (Go-Dairiki Bosatsu) (2).” ※Joruri・Sanseiso (1686) 3 “A knot given by a god, written in katakana as Go-Dairiki” ② (derived from ①) A word written on kiseru, hairpins, small knives, the back skin of shamisen, etc. as a talisman or a vow of chastity. ※Kabuki: Godairiki Koihi (1793), Act 2: "The soul of a geisha is the shamisen, the seal of that shamisen is strong, the vow of the heart is the five great powers." ③ Abbreviation of "Godairikisen ( Godairikisen )". ※Ship Law Ojotana Shoho Monsho (around 1724): "The five great powers of Nishinomiya, a new ship made in Hyogo, run into a telepathic ship in the right sea."
