…She was born in Tokyo as the eldest daughter of Mitsubishi's former Baron Hisaya Iwasaki, married diplomat Renzo Sawada, and converted to Christianity (Anglican Church) while living overseas. After World War II, she used her own money to open the Elizabeth Sanders Home in Oiso in 1948 for mixed-race orphans born to Japanese women and soldiers stationed in Japan. She raised over 2,000 orphans and promoted their adoption overseas. For her volunteer work, she was awarded the Asahi Prize in 1962. …
