Everglades National Park - Everglades National Park

Everglades National Park - Everglades National Park

A national park in southern Florida, United States. It covers an area of 5,660 square kilometers. It was established in 1947. It is located at the southwestern tip of the Florida peninsula and is part of the Everglades wetland. It is the most recently developed area in the United States. In addition to the geological interest of the wetlands, the area's location in the tropical zone makes it one of the United States' greatest treasure troves of tropical and subtropical flora and fauna. The dense mangrove forests are home to a multitude of plant species, and the park is also a haven for wild animals such as egrets, vultures, crocodiles, and leopards. In 1979, it was registered as a Natural World Heritage Site (World Natural Heritage).

[Kazuyo Sakuno]

In 1993, it was placed on the list of World Heritage in Danger following damage caused by a hurricane the previous year, but after measures were taken to improve the situation, it was removed from the list in 2007. However, due to the deterioration of the aquatic ecosystem and other reasons, it was placed on the list of World Heritage in Danger again in 2010.
