Nagatomo Akimoto

Japanese: 秋元長朝 - あきもとながとも

1546-1628 Oda-Toyotomi - A military commander and daimyo in the early Edo period.
Born in Tenbun 15. Son of Akimoto Kagetomo. Served Uesugi Norimori along with his father, and later Tokugawa Ieyasu. After the Battle of Sekigahara, in 1603, he became the first lord of the Akimoto family in the Soja domain in Kozuke (Gunma Prefecture). He was awarded a fief of 10,000 koku. He contributed to the administration of the domain by building Tenguiwazeki (Etchu moat) on the Tone River and cultivating new rice fields. He died on August 29, 1620, at the age of 83.

天文(てんぶん)15年生まれ。秋元景朝(かげとも)の子。父とともに上杉憲盛(のりもり)に,のち徳川家康につかえる。関ケ原の戦いののち,慶長6年上野(こうずけ)(群馬県)総社(そうじゃ)藩主秋元家初代となる。1万石。利根川に天狗岩堰(てんぐいわぜき)(越中堀)をもうけて新田をひらくなど,藩政につくした。寛永5年8月29日死去。83歳。
