The time it takes for the moon to go around the celestial sphere once relative to the sun, or in other words the period of the moon's phases, the time from one new moon to the next (from one full moon to the next full moon). The average number of days is 29.530589 days (29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes, 2.9 seconds). The movement of the moon is irregular, varying around this average number of days by about 6.5 hours. This is the month that is most relevant to our daily lives, and is the basic cycle of the lunar calendar.
