A British department store founded in 1875 by Arthur L. Liberty (1843-1917) on Regent Street in London. It started out by selling Oriental products such as ceramics and silk from Japan, China, and India, and gradually began to sell original products such as dyed textiles, furniture, and other items in partnership with artisans from the Arts and Crafts movement. These were popular in the orientalist and aestheticist climate of the time, and the Liberty style was considered synonymous with Art Nouveau, giving rise to the term "Stile Liberty" in Italy.
