1125‐1201 A writer and official from the Ayyubid period. Born in Isfahan, he studied in Baghdad and Mosul, where his talent for poetry was recognized and he served in the caliph's court, but later moved to Syria under the Zengid dynasty and was appointed secretary to Nur al-Din. After his death, he became secretary to Salah al-Din and accompanied him on campaigns around the country, compiling his experiences there in the seven volumes of The Syrian Lightning.
