Li Di - Riteki

Dates of birth and death unknown. A painter at the Painting Academy of the Southern Song Dynasty in China. Born in Heyang (Meng County, Henan Province), and said to be from Lin'an (Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province). He is believed to have been active during the middle of the Southern Song Dynasty, serving three generations of emperors: Xiaozong, Guangzong (reigned 1162-94), and either Gaozong before him or Ningzong after him. He excelled in painting flowers and birds, bamboo and rocks, and birds and animals, and his flower and bird paintings are representative of the Southern Song court-style flower and bird paintings. His remaining possessions include the national treasure "Red and White Hibiscus" (pair of scrolls, Tokyo National Museum) bearing the seal of 1197, and "Returning to Habitat" (also a national treasure, Yamato Bunkakan Museum, Nara). Both works are rich in emotion, with elegant, delicate ink outlines and vivid colors used in realistic painting.

生没年不詳。中国、南宋(なんそう)の画院画家。河陽（河南省孟(もう)県）出身、一説に臨安（浙江(せっこう)省杭州(こうしゅう)）の人。活躍期は南宋の中期、孝宗・光宗（在位1162～94）とその前の高宗かあるいは後の寧宗の3代に仕えたと推定される。花鳥、竹石、鳥獣画に優れ、その花鳥画は南宋院体花鳥画を代表するもので、遺品に、慶元3年（1197）の落款をもつ国宝の『紅白芙蓉図(ふようず)』（双幅、東京国立博物館）、同じく国宝の『帰牧図(きぼくず)』（奈良・大和(やまと)文華館）がある。いずれも気品に満ちた繊細な墨の輪郭線と鮮麗な彩色とによる写生画法のうちに、豊かな情趣を示す作品である。
