Commando Operation

Japanese: コマンド作戦 - コマンドさくせん

Specially trained small units infiltrate the enemy's sphere of influence and carry out surprise attacks such as intelligence gathering, rear disruption, and destruction of facilities. These units are generally called special forces. The British started it in 1940, and the United States also established the Ranger Unit in 1942. The term "commando" was given to the Boer farmers who harassed the British army with surprise attacks during the Boer War.

特別に訓練された小規模の部隊が敵の勢力圏内に潜入し，情報収集，後方攪乱(かくらん)，施設破壊などの奇襲行動を行うことをいい，その部隊を一般に特殊部隊と呼ぶ。1940年，英国が開始し，1942年，米国もレンジャー部隊を創設した。なおコマンドcommandoとはボーア戦争の際に奇襲作戦で英国軍を苦しめたボーア人の農民たちにつけられた名称。
