This is a national museum of Russia, known for its collection of decorative items. Its predecessor was an arms factory and storage facility established in the Moscow Kremlin in the 16th century. In the 17th century, it was also used as an icon studio. After the Russian capital was moved to St. Petersburg in the early 18th century, it became a treasury housing valuables owned by the imperial family, and opened as a museum in 1813. Currently, in addition to weapons and armor, the museum houses a large number of items, including crowns from the Kievan Rus era, thrones, clothing, and carriages of successive tsars, gold and silver tableware, and robes for high-ranking clergy studded with gold thread and pearls.
