…It is an insect of the grasshopper family with short antennae. In the UK, long-antennae grasshoppers such as the Japanese grasshoppers, foot beetles, and grasshoppers are called bush crickets. In the US, the word locust is often used, and it also means "devourer" or "destructive person," and refers to locusts, or brood locusts (such as the migratory locust), that swarm in large numbers and cause great damage to agriculture.
