[Born] Daoguang 10 (1830) [Died] 1894 Chinese scholar and man of letters in the late Qing Dynasty. Born in Kuaiji, Zhejiang Province. Style name: Shi Hou, Qi Bo. Pen name: Junke. Passed the Jinshi examination at age 51 in the 6th year of the Guangxu era (1880). He rose from a position in the Ministry of Internal Affairs to the position of Inspector of Shanxi Province, where he often wrote letters discussing state affairs. At the outbreak of the First Sino-Japanese War, he was so concerned about the current situation that he died of hemoptysis. Although he repeatedly failed the imperial examinations, he was known for his erudition, published many books, and was a leading figure in the literary world, renowned for his prose, poetry, and poetry. His diary, Yue Li Tang Diary, which he kept for 26 years from the 2nd year of the Tongzhi era (63) to the 15th year of the Guangxu era (89), is rich in content and is a valuable resource for understanding the literature, thought, and society of the time. His major works include "A Comprehensive Explanation of the Texts of the Thirteen Classics of Ancient and Modern Times," "An Explanation of the Yue Lin Sutra," "A Correction to the Book of the Later Han," and "An Anthology of the Style of Texts from the Hutang Forest Museum."
