〘Noun〙① (transliteration of kalaviṅka. Abbreviated as binga etc. Translated as good voice) Buddhist term. It is said to be a bird similar to sparrows and snipes , and is also known as the Indian bird called Bulbul. 〘名〙① (kalaviṅka の音訳。頻伽などと略称。好声と訳する) 仏語。雀や鴫(しぎ)などに類する鳥といわれ、また、インドのブルブルという鳥ともいわれる。極楽浄土にいるといい、顔は美女のようで、その声が非常に美しいところから、仏の声を形容するのに用いられる。伽鳥。かりょうびん。かりょうびかちょう。かりょうびんがちょう。かりょうびんがらちょう。※往生要集(984‐985)大文二「孔雀鸚鵡・伽陵頻伽等。百宝色鳥、昼夜六時出二和雅音一」※仮名草子・尤双紙(1632)上「たかきもののしなじな〈略〉かれうびんがのこゑたてて、わらはべのうたひ」② 美しい芸者、または花魁(おいらん)。また、美声の芸妓にもいう。※雑俳・柳多留‐三四(1806)「かりゃうびんがのなれなれしは踊子」
