Li Gongpu (English spelling)

Japanese: 李公樸 - りこうぼく（英語表記）Lǐ Gōng pú

1902‐46
Chinese democratic journalist. Born in Changshu, Jiangsu Province. After the September 18th Incident (Manchurian Incident) in 1931, he participated in the anti-Japanese national salvation movement, and together with Zou Taofen and others, published the Daily Life Newspaper in Shanghai. He also ran a circulation library attached to the Shenbao Newspaper, and promoted social education movements widely, but in November 1935, he was implicated in the Seven Gentlemen Incident and imprisoned. After his release, he carried out patriotic movements in Shanxi, Chongqing, Wuhan, and other cities, and after the war, he continued the peaceful democratic movement as an important leader of the China Democratic League, but was assassinated by a Kuomintang special agent in Kunming, Yunnan Province in July 1946.

中国の民主的ジャーナリスト。江蘇省常熟の人。1931年の九･一八事変(満州事変)後，抗日救国運動に参加し鄒韜奮（すうとうふん）らと上海に《生活日報》を発刊，また《申報》付属の流通図書館を経営して，広く社会教育運動を推進したが，35年11月，七君子事件に連座，投獄された。釈放後は山西，重慶，武漢等で愛国運動を展開，戦後は中国民主同盟の重要幹部として平和民主運動を続けたが，46年7月，雲南省昆明で国民党特務の凶弾に倒れた。
