Liu-tian-shuo (English: Rikuten-setsu)

Japanese: 六天説 - りくてんせつ（英語表記）Liu-tian-shuo

A theory of the heavens advocated by the Chinese scholar Zheng Xuan of the Later Han Dynasty. Prior to Zheng Xuan, it was believed that there were Five Emperors in the heavens who controlled the cycle of the seasons, but Zheng Xuan adopted the theory of divination and astrology, and assigned the Shangdi and the Five Emperors to the positions of the constellations around the North Star, and also considered the Five Emperors to be spirits, in an attempt to rationalize this theory in accordance with the "theory of the inspiration of the Emperors." Subsequent scholars have refuted this theory.

中国，後漢の経学者鄭玄 (じょうげん) が唱えた天界説。鄭玄以前，天には五帝があって，四季の循環を行なっていると考えていたが，鄭玄は讖緯説 (しんいせつ) ，星術説などをとって，上帝と五帝とを北極星をめぐる星座の位置に配当し，かつ五帝を精霊として，「感生帝説」に合理的に合致させようとした。これに対してその後の学者の駁論がある。
