A branch temple of the Shinshu Otani sect in Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture. It is also known as Takayama Betsuin. It is said to have been founded by Kanenbo Zenshun, a disciple of Shinran who preached mainly in Gujo and Ono counties in Mino Province. Kanenbo Myoshin, a follower of Rennyo, moved the temple to Shirakawa-go in 1488 and took on the current temple name, but in 1588 it was moved to its current location by order of the feudal lord Kanamori Nagachika. A sub-temple that continued to exist at the original site has now been relocated to Shiroyama in Takayama City, and the main hall, built in 1504, is an Important Cultural Property.
