A type of explosiveless blasting method used in places such as coal mines where the use of explosives is restricted. A pipe with an explosive membrane on one end is inserted into a blast hole drilled in the coal seam, and high-pressure air is injected into the pipe to open the detonation valve, causing the high-pressure air to be released all at once and break up the coal seam. Similar methods include cardox, which uses high-pressure carbon dioxide (carbon dioxide gas), and hydrox, which uses a special gas generator. [Yamaguchi Umetaro]

石炭鉱山など，火薬類の使用が制限されるところで行われる無火薬爆破法の一種。炭層にせん孔された爆破孔に，一端に爆発膜を備えたパイプを挿入し，この管内に高圧の空気を圧入して起爆バルブを開き，高圧の空気を一気に吹き出させて炭層を破砕する。同様のものに，高圧の二酸化炭素(炭酸ガス)を用いるカルドックスcardox，特殊なガス発生剤を用いるハイドロックスhydroxがある。【山口梅太郎】
