Sanshotei Karaku - Sanshotei Karaku

Rakugo performer.

First generation

(1777-1833) was originally a comb maker from Bakurocho, Edo, and called himself Sanshotei Karaku as an amateur rakugo performer. He failed in a vaudeville show he held with a friend. He became a professional rakugo performer, changed his name to Sanshotei Karaku, and gained popularity with his Sandai Banashi (three-topic rakugo). He laid the foundation for vaudeville shows and trained many disciples. He left behind over a dozen rakugo books, including "Sansho Miso" and "Edomae." After that, the second (?-1847) took the name from the first disciple Shibaraku (Shibaraku) through the first Okinaya Sanba, the third (?-1857) from the second Sanba, the fourth (?-1869) from the fifth Sanba, the fifth (years of birth and death unknown) from the fourth disciple Shibaraku, and the sixth (?-1924) from Sanba.
