Ramakrishna - Rāmaka Paramahansa

Ramakrishna - Rāmaka Paramahansa

A modern Indian religious leader. His real name was Gadādhar Cattopādhyāya. He was born into a poor Brahmin family in Bengal and received almost no school education. He had various mystical experiences from an early age. At the age of 17 or 18, he went to Calcutta (now Kolkata) and worked in prayer and rituals, but at the age of 21 or 22, he became a priest at a temple dedicated to the goddess Kali in Taxineshwar. For the next 12 years, he lived a secluded life and devoted himself to the study of Vedanta philosophy and Vaishnavite scriptures. As a result, he was able to achieve unity with the goddess Kali and other Hindu deities in a mystical communion, and began to consider himself an incarnation of God. He then approached Islam and Christianity, training in each religion and having various mystical experiences, and finally became convinced that the path to God is the same in all religions. Based on these experiences and convictions, he began to speak about the Word of God and the truth, and many people gathered around him, and by around 1875 he had become a major religious force in the Bengal region. However, it was Vivekananda, who became his disciple in 1882, who made Ramakrishna's name known worldwide. After Ramakrishna's death, Vivekananda established the Ramakrishna Mission, which bore his name, and carried out systematic missionary activities around the world.
