A village in Kitaazumi County in northwest Nagano Prefecture. Population 9,030 (1995). Located in the northern Matsumoto Basin, the western part is the Godohara alluvial fan that spreads out at the foot of the Hida Mountains, and the eastern part is alluvial plain downstream of the Takase River. It has long been a rice monoculture area, but many areas were developed after World War II using the water of the Takase River. In recent years, the cultivation of vegetables, fruits, and flowers and livestock farming have increased, and cucumbers in particular have a large shipping volume. The JR Oito Line and National Route 147 run through the eastern part of the town, providing good access to Matsumoto City and Omachi City, so residential development is progressing and the population is growing.
