Arctic fox (Arctic fox)

Japanese: ホッキョクギツネ(北極狐) - ホッキョクギツネ(英語表記)Arctic fox
Arctic fox (Arctic fox)
A fox-like mammal (illustration) that lives in the Arctic and whose winter fur is usually white, belonging to the family Canidae (carnivora). It is famous for being the most cold-resistant mammal with the most lustrous and beautiful fur. Its body shape is similar to that of a fox, but its skull structure and long, slim limbs are similar to those of a dog, so it is thought to be somewhere between the two. Its ears are round. Its body length is 45.8-67.5 cm, its tail length 22.5-42.5 cm, and its weight 1.4-9 kg. There are two types of body color: those whose summer fur is brown and whose winter fur is white, and a few whose winter fur is not white but is dark, ranging from gray to reddish brown or even almost black.
