Traveling Theatre

The term "tourist theater" refers to a type of theater performed by a theatrical company that tours around the country with simple ensembles and stage equipment. It is distinct from traveling theater, and in modern times refers to a type of theater that is not for profit but is performed as part of a cultural movement. In Japan, the "Trunk Theater" run by the Japan Proletarian Literary Federation in the early Showa period was the forerunner. 〘名〙 簡単な編成と舞台装置で各地を巡業する劇団の演劇。旅芝居と区別し、近代では営利を目的としないで文化運動の一環として行なうものをいう。日本では、昭和初期に、日本プロレタリア文芸連盟が行なった「トランク劇場」が先駆。
