Landschaftsheim

Japanese: Landerziehungsheim
Landschaftsheim

[Human development in boarding schools]
In school boarding houses, young people of similar ages lived together in an environment relatively isolated from society. The school's policy of supervision and discipline, the relationship of mentoring and mentoring between older and younger boarders, and the development of a sense of community through sharing the same life experiences created a unique youth culture. In British public schools, the children of the aristocracy and bourgeoisie were trained to be gentlemen through faith, study, and sports, while the Landerziehungsheim countryside school founded by H. Lietz and others in Germany aimed to develop people based on new educational ideals. In Japan, boarding houses in the early Meiji period were often run by schools in the style of "cheap lodgings" and dominated by the dissolute "scholarly" temperament, but from the mid-Meiji period, control over boarding life was strengthened in order to prevent the spread of anti-establishment ideas such as the Freedom and People's Rights Movement, and to cultivate loyalty to the nation in the future elite.
