A Christian saint born in Spain in the 3rd century. According to legend, he was recognized by Pope Sixtus II and made a deacon in Rome. He was arrested during the persecution of Emperor Valerian, but was given three days to dispose of the church's property, during which time he distributed it to the poor and sick. When he was arrested again and asked to hand over his property, he presented a crowd of poor people, which enraged the officials, and he was roasted to death on a grill. During the reign of Emperor Constantine the Great, the church of San Lorenzo fuori le mura was built over his tomb in Rome.

3世紀のスペインに生まれたキリスト教の聖人。伝説によれば，教皇シクストゥス2世に認められ，ローマで助祭となる。ウァレリアヌス帝の迫害で逮捕されたが，3日の猶予が与えられ，その間に教会の財産を貧者，病人らに分け与えた。再び捕らえられ財産提出を求められると，貧者らの群集を示したため役人の怒りをかい，鉄灸(鉄の焼網)の上であぶり殺された。コンスタンティヌス大帝の時代に，ローマの彼の墓の上にサン･ロレンツォ･フオリ･レ･ムーラ教会が建てられた。
