A town in Menashi County, Hokkaido. It occupies the eastern half of the Shiretoko Peninsula, facing Kunashiri Island across the Nemuro Strait. The town's fisheries include cod, kelp, salmon, and sea urchins. The town center, Rausu, is the base for tourism in Shiretoko National Park, and is also home to hot springs. In 2005, Shiretoko was added to the list of natural heritage sites under the World Heritage Convention. 397.72 km2 . 5,885 people (2010).
