A culture from the middle Bronze Age to the beginning of the Iron Age that was distributed mainly in the area from present-day Poland to the northern part of Czechoslovakia from the 13th to 4th centuries BC. The name Lausitz originated in the mid-19th century when the German R. Virchow adopted the place name as the type name of pottery excavated from a cemetery in the Lower Lausitz region. The people who left behind this culture made a living by cultivating wheat and beans and raising various livestock, and produced and used bronze axes, sickles, swords, accessories, and containers, but from around the 7th to 6th centuries BC, the production and use of iron tools became widespread.
