This coast faces the Sea of Japan at the base of the Oshima Peninsula in western Hokkaido. It stretches from Iwanai Town to Suttsu Town under the jurisdiction of the Shiribeshi General Bureau. The foothills of Mount Raiden (1,212 meters), made of andesite, form sheer cliffs facing the sea, and the area was isolated from the mainland for a long time, but National Route 229 was opened in 1963 after 12 years of difficult construction. It is part of the Niseko-Shakotan-Otaru Coast National Park, and in addition to the scenery of Raiden Pass, Raiden Cape, and Benkei's Sword Rock, it is also home to Raiden Hot Springs, making it a great place for camping and reef fishing.
