Haiku poet. Born in Tokyo. Real name Takashi. Born into a family of Noh actors of the Hosho school. Eldest son of Noh actor Matsumoto Nagashi. He gave up Noh due to poor health. He started writing haiku about Takahama Kyoshi at about the age of 18, and was active in the magazine Hototogisu after the 4S (Shuoushi, Seishi, Seiho, and Suju). In 1946 (Showa 21), he founded and presided over the publication of Fue. He was praised as a "born aristocrat in the arts," and his style of writing was consistent in its elegance and lingering emotion, which was called "Takashi's paradise." His haiku collections include Matsumoto Takashi Kushu (Collection of Haiku) (1935), Taka (1938), and Sekikon (1953, winner of the Yomiuri Literature Prize). He also wrote many critical essays and essays. His younger brother was the Noh actor Shigeo Matsumoto (1915-2003), who was designated a holder of an Important Intangible Cultural Property (Living National Treasure).
