Ujimune - Uji no Sou

...the head of a clan in ancient Japan. Also called the clan leader or clan head, he participated in imperial politics on behalf of his clan, and his clan name and surname were determined by his political status. In the pre-Taika period, the head of a clan led his clan members and managed the civil and administrative departments that were subordinate to the clan, collecting taxes and duties from them, paying a portion of them to the imperial court, and also sharing official positions in the imperial court.
