Zygolophodon

Japanese: Zygolophodon
Zygolophodon

...In the latter two genera, the lower tusks are modified into shovel-like shapes. The Mammutidae (Mammut or American Mastodon , Zygolophodon ), widespread in the Miocene and Pleistocene, are often considered to be in the same family as the preceding family, but the papillae on their molars form a transverse row. The Elephantidae ( Stegodon , Mammuthus , and modern elephants), which appeared in the Miocene, lack lower tusks, have high molar crowns, and have numerous transverse ridges on the biting surface, making them suitable for eating grass and other hard plants.

From Mastodon

...An extinct proboscidean elephant-like mammal belonging to the family Mammutidae. The family Mammutidae is made up of two main genera: Zygolophodon , which was distributed in Eurasia from the Miocene to the early Pleistocene, and Mammut ( Mastodon ), which flourished in North America from the Pliocene to the present day. The American mastodon, Mammut americanus , was tall at the shoulder, measuring 2.7 to 3 meters, had a low and long head, had 2 to 3 meter long tusks on its upper jaw, and its body was covered with long brown hair up to 30 cm long. It lived in open lowland coniferous forests.
