Japanese: ツノトンボ(長角蜻蛉) - ツノトンボ（英語表記）owl fly

A general term for insects belonging to the family Ascalaphidae of the order Neuroptera, or one of these species. Members of this family are generally large, with a wingspan of 3.5-11 cm. As their name suggests, they look like dragonflies at first glance, but they have long antennae and belong to completely different taxonomic groups. They are widely distributed from the tropics to temperate zones, with about 300 species known, and four species are found in Japan, where they appear in grasslands and forest edges from May to September. Like the yellow horned dragonfly Ascalaphus ramburi , they are often active during the day and fly quite quickly.
