[Born] Eastern Jin Dynasty, Taihe 1 (366) [Died] Eiwa 1 (416) The second emperor of the Later Qin Dynasty of the Five Barbarians and Sixteen Kingdoms of China (reigned 394-416). His temple name was Gaozu. He was the son of Yao Chang. He destroyed the Former Qin Dynasty, captured Luoyang in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, and controlled the Jin Dynasty cities north of the Huaihan River. He then captured Western Qin and conquered Later Liang. He also dedicated Southern Liang, Northern Liang, and Western Liang. Later Qin's power grew, but in his later years, Helian Bobo broke away from him (the Xia Dynasty), and the country's strength declined due to pressure from Liu Yu of the Eastern Jin Dynasty. When he conquered Later Liang, he welcomed Kumarajiva to Chang'an, where he started translating Buddhist scriptures and building temples, and promoted Buddhism.
