It is translated as motive or motivation. It is a word derived from the medieval Latin motivum, meaning "that which gives motion," and is used figuratively first to describe the movement of objects, then to describe the motive (motivation) of human behavior, and finally as an artistic term. The Japanese word, which is a direct transfer of the pronunciation, can be considered an artistic term. A work of art is formed as a meaningful whole, and concrete materials are essential for the creation of a work. Therefore, a variety of things, from the spirit to the material, are involved in the creation of the core of the work, and motifs are understood in a wide variety of ways.
