Jünger, Ernst
Born: March 29, 1895 in Heidelberg
[Died] February 17, 1998. Wilfringen, Baden-Württemberg. German novelist and critic. Brother of F. Junger. Based on his experiences as a soldier in World War I, he wrote diary works such as In Stahlgewittern (1920), Der Kampf als inneres Erlebnis (22), Feuer und Blut (25), Die totale Mobilmachung (31), and Der Arbeiter (32), which glorified war and totalitarian ideology. He was seen as a pioneer of German fascism, but he did not tolerate the Nazis, and in 1939 he wrote Auf den Marmorklippen (On the Marble Cliffs), an anti-Nazi novel in a mythical and fantastical style. He was one of the refugees in Germany. His other works include the futuristic novel Heliopolis (49), the diary Strahlungen (49), the essays Über die Linie (50), and Das Sanduhrbuch (54). He was awarded the Goethe Prize in 1982.
