Spanish soldier, liberal and patriot. He studied at the University of Oviedo and joined the Royal Guard in Madrid in 1807. He fought in the Spanish War of Independence, and was captured in 1808 and taken to France. He returned to Spain via England and Germany (1814) and rejoined the army. In January 1820, he led a force that was supposed to be heading to suppress the independence movement in the American colonies near the city of Cabilla, and issued a pronunciamiento under the banner of supporting the Constitution of Cadiz. The revolutionary army entered Madrid in August and forced King Ferdinand VII to approve the restoration of the liberal Constitution of Cadiz.

スペインの軍人，自由主義者で愛国者。オビエド大学で学び，1807年マドリードで近衛隊入隊。スペイン独立戦争に参戦し，08年捕らえられ，フランスへ連行された。イギリス，ドイツを経て帰国し(1814)軍に復帰。20年1月カビリャ市付近でアメリカ植民地の独立派を鎮圧に向かうはずの部隊を率い，カディス憲法支持を旗印にプロヌンシアミエントを発した。革命軍は8月マドリードへ入城し，フェルナンド7世に自由主義的なカディス憲法の復活を承認させた。
