The Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee was an American civil rights organization formed in 1960 by black students with the slogans of anti-war and anti-discrimination. It played a leading role in the civil rights movement of the 1960s, which sought to abolish racial discrimination against blacks. In 1969, it abandoned its nonviolent approach and changed its name to the Student National Coordinating Committee, but gradually lost influence, and in the early 1970s the organization split and was dissolved.

SNCC [Student National Coordinating Committee]

The Student National Coordinating Committee was renamed in 1969 after its predecessor, the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, felt that its nonviolent policy had reached its limits. In the early 1970s, the organization split up due to differences in policy, losing influence and being dissolved.
