The Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee was an American civil rights organization formed in 1960 by black students with the slogans of anti-war and anti-discrimination. It played a leading role in the civil rights movement of the 1960s, which sought to abolish racial discrimination against blacks. In 1969, it abandoned its nonviolent approach and changed its name to the Student National Coordinating Committee, but gradually lost influence, and in the early 1970s the organization split and was dissolved.SNCC [Student National Coordinating Committee]Source: About Shogakukan Digital Daijisen Information | Legend |
